Look into my eye.

When we do our Saturday night seafood smorgasboard we shop at Les Halles food market in Angoulême. (The best crab and shrimp apart from at the coast!)
There is no way I can walk past the flower seller and not buy a bunch of these.
Big blousy petals, shout out from the roof top intense colour, and eyes that almost look deep into your soul. They have my heart 💜

With the curfew clock ticking we had 30 minutes on our way back from Talmont-sur-Gironde (see previous posts) to have a quick wander round medieval Jonzac. It was only last week when I was researching main feature buildings in towns and villages for an illustration project that I ended up drawing the chateau which now houses the council offices and a theatre.
So many beautiful buildings, so little time, but we’ll be back and maybe next time to stop off properly and have lunch.

A little stroll through the village of Talmont-sur

A little stroll through the village of Talmont-sur-Gironde after checking out the surrounding vineyards, fishing piers and clifftop walks was like stepping back in time and delightful.
Shutters fastened tight, shops closed and no one on holiday added to the quiet, bygone-era-feel of the place. There’s a pretty Marie, ramshackled alleys and lots of shades of blue.
So French, so cute.

I would love any ideas of where we can head off to next - a couple of hours drive away.

The ebb and flow of the tide, especially in estuar

The ebb and flow of the tide, especially in estuaries, inlets and marshland is like a tightening and releasing of a pull towards a life back near the coast. Living on the Thames estuary in Leigh-on-Sea was a huge source of inspiration for my work and being on the coast still fills me with excitement.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the countryside, forest and mountains too, but the coastal air, when it fills your lungs and blows through your hair is totally and utterly invigorating.
Let’s just say life is rich having the best of both worlds.

If you wander along the coastal path past vineyard

If you wander along the coastal path past vineyards and sloe blossom you see the little village of Talmont-sur-Gironde in the distance. A magnificent church is perched at the end of the mini peninsula with views of the Gironde estuary and the far banks of the Medoc.
Just what was needed to blow away the cobwebs.
